OpenX to handle billion ad impressions per month

Question:

We are planning to show up to 1 billion ad impressions per month.

I’m looking for help in folowing:
1. Understanding which servers we neeed
2. Installation and configuration
3. custom module, lets possibility to set delivery limitations like:

For banner A
USA 100000 impressions per day
Pakistan 1000 impressions per day
Iraq 20000 impressions per day

1. Understanding which servers we need

There is no exact answer for this questions. It depends upon number of parameters like delivery limitation, targeting, which type of banners (swf, image) etc.

You can go for Quad core Xeon E5320 processor with 2 to 4 GB RAM.

2. Installation and configuration

We will install OpenX in your server and we will configure it such that it can deliver banner efficiently. Also, we will set cron job for maintenance script.

3. custom module, lets possibility to set delivery limitations like:

For banner A

Pakistan 1000 impressions per day
Iraq 20000 impressions per day

è Yes, we can make this functionality. We will make one module which will allow you(or advertiser) to set this settings in banner property/ delivery limitation page and OpenX will use this targeting info in delivery such that it will not deliver more impressions per day per country then given.

Implementation of this functionality will take 2 to 3 days.

Hide Past Inactive Campaigns

Question:

i want to hide inactive campaigns which are expired, in the campaign overview page.

Answer:

This will not hide campaigns which will be activated in future.

For example, if Advertiser has a campaign set to active tomorrow, and now if the Advertiser clicks on hide inactive campaigns link, it will hide all inactive campaigns from view.

It means it will hide campaigns which will be activated in future also. (And this is what most advertisers don’t want because he want to manage all current campaign and future campaigns)

So, this will help for such kind of Advertisers.

They could see all active campaigns and all future campaigns also, so that Advertiser will find it easy-to-manage active campaigns in their current view.

OpenX custom tags

Question:

I need custom openX invocation tags, could you quote how long would this take?

* I want to specify the page target only once in the section of the page (eg sports, nightlife)
* I want simple image ads to rotate without a page load
* I don’t want to specify the zone sizes (I have my own reasons)
* I want to run this with open x hosted
* I don’t want a banner to repeat on the same page
* I’m thinking that XML-RPC is the way to go although this isn’t part of open x hosted, I’ve emailed them to find out how much this access will cost. A div in the page that has the zone name as it’s id could be replaced in the DOM with new ad.

We have analyzed your requirements.

Let me explain each invocation code characteristics.

Image type of invocation code will allow reloading but it will not allow to block image second times in page.

Iframe type of invocation code will not allow target ads globally and it may display same banner again on same page.

Xml-RPC invocation code will not allow reloading banner without refreshing page.

Javascript type of invocation code will not allow reloading banner but it will allow to target banner from header and block banner to display again on same page but it will not allow reloading banner without refreshing page.

Also, each modification requires to change in OpenX files. So, we can not integrate to OpenX hosted but we can do with your OpenX installation.

Do you want only 1 invocation code having all functionality or do you want individual invocation code with individual functionality?

Please give your clear idea so we can give you best matched feasible solution for you.

The current XML-RPC is php, this has to run as the page is being built so it cannot reload the ads without a page load. However, a javascript XML-RPC function could be made to call a new ad each time it was called, this ad could then be inserted into the DOM. This would be an additional custom javascript. Repeating banners would then be a problem but I can live with that.

Can you do this?

Yes, we can do this and I think you already know what limitation is for this type of invocation code (as you described).

We will make invocation code which will call other file which will have xml-rpc banner and it will replace div in every defined time.

Implementation of this custom invocation code will take 2 days.

All banners invocation code with custom css

Question:

we need a single invocation code, which will list out all linked banners and all active banners. How can do this?

Answer:

Using this code, the publisher can view all the linked banners and he/she can also use these in his/her site to attract other advertisers.

This will not display the deactivated and expired banners. you can align banners using custom CSS.

This will work for Local banner (web server), URL banner, and SWF banner only.

Will provide a single invocation code.

Will list only the active and existing banners.

Will display all the linked banners with a single code.

Very useful to the publisher to attract new advertisers.

zone duplication with linked banners for openx

Question:
How do create one new zone duplication with linked banners? How do to create that?

Answer:
You want to duplicate the zone with all the linked banners!! We have plugin for this.
This functionality does not exist in OpenX.
OpenX is proving Zone Duplicate functionality which is duplicating zone without duplicating linked banners.
This will duplicate the zone with all the linked banners.

Invocation Code to display banners on Affiliate Category

Question:

I need for an invocation code to display banners of a certain size but to exclude banners that match the affiliates category from displaying on his site.

Example1 – An advertiser in category “Marketing – Network Marketing (ox_affiliates - aoc_category_id = 2202)” has a banner of size 468×60. On his website he has allocated a spot to display banners of size 468×60 but does not want to display banners from advertisers (the competition) in his same category (2202).

Do you have the instructions on how to set this up and obtain the proper invocation code OR do you have the code to alter openx (latest version) so that I may achieve my purpose. I am looking for a simple solution that won’t interfere with my ability to keep this functionality after upgrading or the instruction to achieve my purpose using openx features like Zones and keywords. In other words an encrypted module will not help because I will not be able to integrate it into my frontend so that it becomes a seemless part of my modifications.

I already have the ability to alter the database tables at will to do things like copy the comtents of ox_affiliates->aoc_category_id to ox_banners->keyword and so on.

Yes, we can help you to implement your requirements in latest version of OpenX.

First let me explain your requirements.

Suppose, any publisher has selected “Marketing - Network Marketing” as a category of his site then you don’t want to display competitor banners in publisher sites.

We have to implement this custom requirements.

First our module will give category drop-down in advertiser property page so that advertiser can select his appropriate category.

(as you may know, OpenX is allowing only publishers to choose category, not to advertisers.)

At time of displaying banners, our module will check publisher category and it will allow only banners of advertisers who are not from same category.

Implementation of this functionality will take 2 days.

FLV Banner for OpenX

Question:

Does Flv Banner for OpenX plugin means that we can play flv files through OpenX or just upload.

No, it’s not only uploading. OpenX will play flv banner also.

This mod will allow admin to upload flv banners and OpenX will play flv video banners also by invocation code.

Self Registration and automatic Banner Optimization

Advanced Advertiser SignUp With All Permissions with payment

Question:

I want to create new advertiser account. currently admin only can create the advertiser account. but, we need create advettiser accont with payment?

Answer:

we have one plugin for this requirement.

It was long ago, when the advertiser cannot create his own account and was depending on the administrator for each and everything, right from creating an account.

Now the method has changed. The advertiser can create his own account using this special mod.

The advertiser can self register, can upload their own banners and can manage their accounts by their.

This mod also integrates the Self Sign-up and paypal in openx. For this advertiser need to click on signup link in the openx home page.

At the time of signup, the user has to pay certain amount to become an advertiser and this amount can be set by administrator.
